Hi Pete and Jan Sorry I havent responded, I have had a lot of catching up to do ha ha. Pete: They said that they had tested the cable. I got in touch with the shop yesterday and told them what happened with the telephone company. They were very red faced and said that it was their trainee that tested it. They appologised and gave me a 10 pound credit note. I didnt know they had a trainee and I bet they didnt think I would find out. Jan: I know what you mean, my telephone wire will be the first thing I check next time. Jayne

I had the same problem. I couldn't get the connection and kept ringing BT in India and getting people who kept telling me to switch the whole thing off, pull out the plugs and then leave it, so that it would refresh itself. This went on for two weeks and it was awful. I was getting more and more upset and BT were useless. They kept saying that there was no problem with the line and eventually sold me a new router, which they said was the cause of the problem. That took a week to come through the post an when it arrived, the connection still wouldn't work. My son came for a visit and said he would check the BT box on the wall and a wire had come out. He connected it back and instantly, I was connected again. If it happens again, the box will be my first point of call Jan

Glad to hear that you are sorted. It is a big shame that shops like this get away with selling you something in the hope that it will fix things. Did they actually test the old cable?

I havent been online for about a week now because my computer kept losing connection. I took it to the shop and the man told me there was nothing wrong with it but I might need a new cable. So I bought one of them then a split plug. It still wouldnt stay connected. Today the telephone company came out to check my phone as this was crackling. He said that one of the wires outside was sticking out of the box so he put it back inside. BINGO. My computer is now staying connected. I wish I had gone to them first as it wouldnt have cost me a penny. To all those people who were helping me last week Im sorry if you thought I was ignoring you. I am going to look at my last threads now and will get back to you all. Jayne
