Sylvia I agree that the birth cert is the best way to go. I found a Daniel and Martha Herbert on the 1841 and they were not living in Chelsea, so I doubt if that is the marriage after all. Best of luck with the cert. Maggie |

Perhaps try parish records for the children to find out the father's name, that would tell you if the 1814 marriage is your Martha? This would then aid you in finding out when he died. |

If the family found above in 1841 is the right family, then there is a daughter Emma, born c.1838. This could mean anytime between June qtr. of 1837 and March qtr. of 1838. If it happened to be after the start of registration in July 1837 and her birth WAS registered, then her birth certificate would give you her father's full name. Kath. x |

As they are still in Chelsea, Smith Street is it worth seeing if there is a death ( of a Daniel ) perhaps, he must have died within a three to four year period - after Emma and before the 1841 census. Regards Gail |

Hi Kathleen, Martha Herbert is her married name I have tried to work it out and I believe she got married about 1814/1815 and I believe that my ggg grandad was alive in 1833 & 1836 because of another 2 children born then ? Sylvia |

From what Gail found on the 1841 she may not have been married in 1833, is that possible? How do you know that is when she married? Could it have been later? Ancestry has Pallotts Marriage Index 1780-1837 and you can often find what you are looking for there. I found a number of Martha Herberts but only one in Chelsea and that was in 1815. The only Martha Herbert in 1833 was in Spitalfields. Rgds Maggie |
