Whats the best software for family trees?

Do you use any software thats better than others and why?

I use FTM2005 along with lots of other people on this site. I find it great, but there are lots of others and some that are free to download. FTM2006 is also available, but at the moment you can get the basic FTM2005 (the basic is all you really need) for under a tenner at some supermarkets. I think Morrisons or Tesco had them. Kath. x

I bought FTM version 16 (is that 2006?). It works pretty well although it took a while to get used to. Data entry is very easy and the ability to attach images is nice (scrapbook). I find I only really use the all-in-one chart and once you have set up the fonts, background, shapes, etc. you don't use them again. I bought it in the USA so it only cost around 20 quid.

FTM (Family Tree maker) is fairly straight forward but it's probally better to try a few before deciding - you can download free versions online so you will get an idea of what the programs are like and then if you want you can upgrade to the full versions as the free ones have limited features. will nudge the relavent thread.
