Annie, Kim & Penny, Thanks for your suggestions. I have just received a reply from Ancestry. The main point being: 'We apologize for the inconvenience, but it currently isn't possible to export a GEDCOM from the Personal Family Tree. We are in the process of adding that function to our website. Hopefully within the next month or two. Thank you for your patience.' So now I have to decide to be either very patient or to get busy adding ancestors individually (again). At least I can continue searching. Happy hunting to you all. Jo

Hi Penny, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was so tired last night after staring at the computer for so long and I've been working this morning. Anyway, I have tried your directions and after watching the little clock symbol revolve for ages I've downloaded empty pages! When I view my Online tree on the advanced page I find that the content is far less than in my new Personal Ancestry tree in the family trees page, which is what I really want to download. Is there any way of exporting from the Family Trees page? Sorry to appear so incapable. I have sent an e-mail to Ancestry Support but it may take some time to receive a reply Jo

I decided to export my GR tree again but even that appears to be taking quite a while - 20 mins wait so far - is that normal?. I thought that if I at least had the gedcom on email I could try one or two options. Jo

Thanks Kim Yes, I've read on this site that many people have transferred successfully to a tree maker but my GR tree is no way up to date and I spent Sunday evening scanning and entering old photos onto Ancestry. It now sounds as if I shall have to do that again on the FTM. Oh, the joys of genealogy! Jo

Hi Annie, Yes, the Personal Tree. Does that mean I have to load my tree to the FTM person by person, with all the attached info? This sounds like bad news. Unfortunately my GR tree is not up to date either. Jo

I don't think ancestry have added a feature to download trees yet. They have promised it but it has not hapened. I take it we are talkingabout the new personal tree feature. Anne

I've recently downloaded my tree from GR to Ancestry and added a lot to it but now I can't find a way of uploading the fuller tree to a very newly purchased WDYTYA Family Tree Maker. I'm sure I'm being even thicker about computers than usual but it seems to me that all the Help subjects deal with uploading to Ancestry but downloading, if mentioned, must be well-hidden. I've got an Annual UK Deluxe Membership, Public tree, Not Shared but have discovered today that I also have an Online Family tree with very few entries, last modified 18.05.05 which is strange because I only joined 16/08/06! When I found that mystery I tried to update the Online tree with Ancestry instructions but even that hasn't worked. I've printed out and read the FTM manual and I'm lost. You will understand that my knowledge of the depths of the computer is pretty low so I hope I have explained myself OK. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help please reply soon. Jo. PS I've found Ancestry really useful otherwise and pleased I joined.
