If you go to Google*co*uk and insert '19th century stonemasons' there are not that many - gthe majority you can skip through in no time - just needs research time - never know what you may find ! or even 19th century pier builders !!

Masons are Masons stone or otherwise. Try putting masons into the search box at the top of the Tips page for info that other people have contributed. Otherwise just try googling Masons. Plenty of info when you google. Most local reference libraries will have info on when their piers were built. Yes, you may have to wade through info but isn't that what family history is all about, researching? Janet

Hi Ann, I have tried googling it, but there are so many returns that it would take a very long time to wade through. Nearly all of the matches aren't relevant as they link to existing stonemason businesses. Thanks, Matt

Hi all, In researching my family tree, it seems that nearly every male in my family, from about 1820 until my grandfather, were stonemasons. They came from Ireland and seemed to have 'followed the money' by moving along the eastern coasts of scotland and england, building piers as they went. Does anyone know of where I can get information on stonemasons / pier building, etc in the 19th century? Thanks Matt
