I'm in agreement with John. I think that Scotlands People is very good value of money!!

Hi Andrew, I have managed to expand my Ayrshire searches by doing IGI searches at www.familysearch.org but it's pretty hit and miss. There's some stuff there and some stuff that isn't. For more detailed help on Scottish research you could try joining the Scotland's Family Tree forum at http://scotfamtree.11.forumer(.)com/ I believe they've got an Ayrshire specialist contributing over there. He's certainly helped me! But ultimately there's going to be a lot of stuff that you'll have to go to Scotland's People to find. Cheers! Gordon

The short answer is NO. ScotlandsPeople is a government website. The only Scottish information available elsewhere is the 1841 census, which is on Ancestry as well as ScotlandsPeople. I haven't found the costs outrageous for the quality of information you get. 20p for a list of possibles and £1 for a census or register image isn't too bad. Just like doing English searches and buying English certificates the cost can mount up. J

Hi. I need to find info on my Johnstone side of my family, they were from Ayrshire in Scotland. Does anyone know of any search/info available that does not require using credits. Thn Andy
