The .FTW File will contain everything, pictures, notes, the lot. Install the FTM program on your new computer, insert the CD with the .FTW back up file on it into the CD drawer. Open FTM go to File, Open and navigate to your CD Drive, highlight the file on the CD click open, job done. Carol www*genealogyprinters*com

Gedcom does transfer notes and images although you may need to check the relevant boxes. Sue

Am I right in thinking that the Gedcom will not transfer notes and images etc, better off with a FTW backup file. Keith

Either a gedcom or the family tree back up file should work. Sue

I have Family Tree maker Version 11 , and windows Professional. I am getting a new computer this week. I would like some expert advice on how to get the tree on the new computer. It has about 1500 names on it. I have the original Family tree software so I can load that OK. But do I have to save a Gedcom file , or a backup file ? or some other type of file to enable me to load the whole lot on ? Regards, Maurice
