Have they said what they think the connection is with their tree? If not I would reply asking them to tell you what they think is the connection between you before allowing them to see your tree. Kath. x

It sounds a bit odd for someone just to ask to see your tree. People normally mention who it is they are looking for and I reply saying whether or not I think there is a link and open my tree. Or if I am approaching someone I will say who I think the link is and open my tree to them to help illustrate it. Why would anyone pass up the opportunity for a little chat? Regards Abigail

It would be unusual not to acompany with at least a descriptive email.

I had one of these recently and when I asked what the link was they apologised and said that they had clicked on my name by mistake, so I would always check before opening.

If another member is rude enough to request to see your tree without giving any explanation about a probable connection, then I would hve thought the most appropriate response would be to delete the message without acknowledgment.

Someone asked to see my tree 3 times and each time I asked him which name he was interested in , he never replied to any of my requests. I wondered if he is doing genealogy for a living and being on this site he gets a lot of info. Josephine

I sent a two nice messages regarding several hot matches to a lady, but received no reply, so I just send an 'open your tree please' to her, and she did, so I could see where she fits into my tree. I never received a reply from her, but she did give me access to her tree - I can tell her five more generations of our family and share lots about them, if only she would send me sign !!! But truly, I would be wary of just opening it to someone without any kind of contact first. Diane

Stacy It sounds like the automated message on this site. The one where you just click the box to ask which question you want. I have had several of these. I always reply asking for details of who they are interested in. If they answer I then have a look at the person and see if the info matches mine. I only open my tree if we definately have the same person. Carole xx
