GR only have permission to use certain records. Ancestry and others (such as 1837online) have permission to use certain records, some the same and some different. You can access the English and Welsh B/M/D indexes on Ancestry for free, but you do have to register first. Scottish records are managed directly by the General Register Office of Scotland, via their ScotlandsPeople website. Their records are organised differently, the range of dates covered is different and it's pay per view. If you tell us what you are looking for - someone can then tell you the best/cheapest place to look, or may even do the look-up for you. J |

why is it only the England and wales census on the records part of this site and also when i look up deaths and marriages and births they are only English as well thanks x |
