What does 'nurse' mean on a census.

I'm looking at my great great grandfather Edwin Waterton on the 1881 census who was the manager of the Black Bull. There is a lady called Jane Sutton who is down as a nurse in the relation to head section. Her occupation is a domestic servant. Can anyone enlighten me on the nurse idea? Ta

If you come across the expression nurse child in relation to a young child it is likely to mean foster child. Anne
