I have a David Durrant on the 1881 census as a Police Constable. He was living Knaphill, Guildford, Surrey at the time. Is there any place I can find out more about his time as a policeman? I don't know where to start! Sue

Hi Not much help at this time but didn't 'WDYTYA' trace the records of a policeman who later became a Chartist. A relative of Jeremey Irons. If anyone recorded the program perhaps they could gleam where the records were held. Bye Paul

Thank you for the replies. I have emailed the person who runs the Surrey Constabulary museum at Mount Browne, which I found by googling Surrey Constabulary. I should have taken note of an earlier post to google everything! Sue

I emailed the Surrey Constabulary museum on Sunday and this morning I received a copy of my great great grandfather's service record! Thank you for the advice.

My local record office had a book with them indexed in, so I presume most would. Also, I think the police have an archivist (I know they British Transport Police do... although I'm still waiting to hear back form him lol) good luck, Liz
