I'm trying to find a friend's grandmother's christening, which was apparently in the Tower of London. Does anyone know what registration district that would come under, or what parish it's in? I imagine the Tower had it's own church/chapel, does anyone have any info about this?? Thanks all! Carlabee

It used to be the Liberties of the Tower of London. The liberty was abolished in 1894, by which time the area was part of the County of London. In 1900 it became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney. The area now forms part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Thanks Karen. This lady was called Eliza Collins, born 1840. Her birthplace is recorded on the censuses as, variously, Newington, Lambeth, Surrey, Southwark and even, on the 1871 census, 'born on the sea'! I can't settle on a birth cert for her, the closest seems to be Eliza Ann Collins born Newington 1841. Her family believe she was christened in the Tower of London. Who was allowed to be christened there, do you know? And, out of the possible churches you've kindly listed, do you think the Holy Trinity one would be the best place to look? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm doing this as a favour for this friend! Thanks again, Carlabee

St Peter ad Vincula. I've just done some work on a marriage there - relative of bride was a Beefeater. Keith
