What event(s) are you looking for? The earliest Scottish and English censuses were in 1841 (both are available on Ancestry if you have a subscription). Official recording of births, marriages and deaths didn't start in England and Wales until 1837 and it wasn't compulsory until 1875. Scottish BMDs don't start until 1855. Scotland's People is a pay per view service (20p for a page of matched entries and £1 to view a downloadable register entry. You buy 30 credits for £6. Is the surname all you've got? A family group would be easier to identify. J |
