What I did wrong was to search only on 1891 census. I didn't think to go forward. At least today I've learned something new! Hopefully I'll be able to do the next one on my own! Thanks to you both once again. Margaret

Wendy, I don't know how you found them but you're amazing! I've just checked the 1891 census myself and found them. Eleanor's middle name is Orpha and they've spelt the surname wrong but it's them. Thank you very much for your time, it's very much appreciated. Thanks

o.k then, I'll need to find a marriage for her in order to find the children again. I did look for a marriage but lots of Eliza/Elizabeth Garrett's came up. I'll put this to rest for a while. Thanks

Possibly yes, possible no...... In my case when mother re-married the children in one census were recorded with their own name but called 'stepsons' ......then in the next census they were called by their stepfathers name and called sons!!!!! The enumerators were obviously in a hurry and 'assumed' things that cause us headaches today over 100 years later. grrrr grrrr Kathlyn

I've got Thomas Garrett b.1848 Sussex and his wife Eliza D. b.1852/3 in Kent with children Edith b.1874, Eleanor b.1879 and Herbert E. b.1878 on 1871 and 1881 census. I can't find any trace after this. I think Thomas may have died in 1882 but still can't find his wife and children. If she had remarried would the childrens names still have been Garrett? Many thanks
