Would really appreciate some advice! Jabez James Glasscock bn 1863 St Saviour Shows up on 1871 census, still as Jabez Glasscock, with Parents and family still in St Saviour. Shows on 1881 census as James Glass, as a border in Camberwell. Shows on 1901 with wife Emma and kids in Newington Emma nee Shelton or Skelton bn 1864/5 Walworth. Hard to read on one of daughters birth certs. Emma and 3 of the kids die in 1917, direct hit on house by a blooming zeplin! (have found their deaths) James was still alive in 1918 when one of remaining daughters got married and he signed his name on cert as James Jabez Glass. Can't find his death or his and Emma's marriage nor where he was in 1891! Someone Help!!! |

Found his wife's birth if that helps: Emma Mary Skelton Dec 1864 Newington 1d 187 and it looks like she was married before: Marriages Sep 1886 DIMMOCK William Thomas St Saviour 1d 3 HILL Samuel Henry St. Saviour 1d 3 Skelton Emma Mary St Saviour 1d 3 Might explain why you've been unable to find a marriage to James. I have a Glasscock in my tree and it seems they came from Essex. I have a book somewhere with information about them. I'll have a look. |

Thanks guys! Deffinatly think that the 1881 entry is him as i have looked up the 17th lancers and their depot was woolwich which is the right sort of area. 17th lancers were the lot that took the zulu's on! Am begining to wonder if one of the few Emma Shelton / Skelton marriges in their area is her and that could be another reason why i can't find their first son's birth! think i might have found her on 1881 census in hackney with her parents? John and Emma? sam |
