ALL BMD's are FREE at ancestry, you DO NOT need a subscription to see them. you can see the partial ones OR the complete index which is the same as 1837. i believe you need to register, but you do not need to pay |

Familyrelatives is very useful for its golden years between 1866 and 1920 where the BMD are fully transcribed, so you can look for a marriage in a certain quarter i.e a marriage between fisher and wilson. Familyrelatives also offers alot of the overseas BMD indices for free. Personally I flick between both sites, and Ancestry. |

Curious fox is good, you can also be a free member if you're not sure. |

I have just discovered Curious Fox yesterday, while surfing and already have found two possible links. Searching is centered around Villages or Areas, which I find appropriate for pre-19th Century rural communities like several of mine centered on Dumfries and Sedberg. Typically they seem to have inter-married with families within walking distance or a horse ride away, or from the same Parish. Seems well worth the UKP5 per year or even the more limited free membership which doesn't allow full messaging or notification of new posts.. |

Yvonne familyrelatives offer a match service similar to freebmd but up to 1920, which is much futher than freebmd currently have. Quote: Marriage Match: Marriage match is a unique facility only available to Familyrelatives.org. Until now it has always been difficult to find the spouse of a family member unless you have the certificate. However Marriage Match allows you to match all those other persons who were married in the same District, on the same quarter, in the same year. Traditionally there have only been 2 or 3 Marriage Certificates listed on one page at the General Register Office. Therefore Marriage Match finds all the entries that match the same criteria on the page at the GRO that you have just searched. Thereby giving you a much better opportunity of finding the spouse of the person for whom you are looking. In order to use Marriage Match all you need to do is search for the person for which you have the marriage details once you have located the correct person press the icon found next to the image . This will then allow you to view all those people who match the same criteria. Please note there is small charge for this service. The Marriage Match is available for 1866 to 1920 and 1984 to 2004. The cost for using the Marriage match search facility is 2 units Obviously you cant look for a specific marriage as spouse names were not added to the the indices till the 1st Quarter of 1912, but narrowing down the names to the right area, same time is most of the battle. Family search also offer a marriage booster facility Quote: Marriage Booster: There are many researches who often have the Surname of the person for whom they are looking as well as the Spouse’s surname but not the date. It can be tedious having to look through endless images and being unable to find this information pre 1912. Familyrelatives.org has been able to offer this unique facility which allows you to locate the surname and the spouse’s name irrespective of whether you have the date of the event. All you need is the Surname and Spouse’s surname press the search button and Familyrelatives.org will search and find which two match. The Booster Marriage is available for 1866 to 1920. The cost for using the Booster Marriage search facility is 2 units Willow |
