Help please! A family missing in 1861 and 1871

I think I have found my gt gt grandfather Edwin (Edward) Vaux (mistranscribed as Venn) in the 1851 census together with his parents John J Vaux and Frances and a brother, John. I have also found his parents in 1841 (under the name Caux). I also have Edwin/Edward's wedding certificate from 1871 in which he names his father as John Vaux - butcher. I am pretty sure that I have found the reference to the marriage of Edwin/Edward's parents (she was Frances Bartrum) in 1939 in Newington Surrey. However, I can not find any of the family in the 1861 or 1871 censuses under any spelling and I have exhausted any possibilities I can think of. I would be very grateful for any help that a fresh pair of eyes can give me. Thanks

I really hate it when they do that. I have a couple of people who have gone awol on one or more of the censuses. I have one who her family are all listed but she is no where to be found; pops up on the next one. It does make you wonder. Liz

1871 - no idea - but parents may have died and the siblings scattered? 1861 - if using Ancestry, try John Cole Balue and family - there seem to be a reasonable number of matches

Jim - Edward (Edwin's) marriage certificate shows the residence at time of marriage as 37 Earl Street. Although neither the bride or groom are living there at the time of the census in 1871, it is the home of one of the witnesses, Constance Danvers. She seems to have been about 15 at the time of witnessing the marriage - wouldn't that be too young? Thanks for pointing out the possible double wedding. I must admit I hadn't noticed that.

Thanks Ozibird The Balue family don't really seem to fit. There is no other reference to any of the family being born in Dorset, John is not mentioned as a carpenter anywhere else and the name on the original looks like Balm or Balu, but definitely not Vaux. All the other entries for this family have the surname mistranscribed but on the originals they definitely look like Vaux. That's not to say for definite that it is not them! The reference to the death of Frances at Newington in 1862 may well be right but she should still figure in the 1861 census somewhere as should the rest of the family. As for the other Vauxs mentioned, they may well be related to my Newington Vauxs but I have no way of being sure from the information given in the census entries I have tracked down so far. Thanks anyway for giving your time to try to help. I seem to be at least temporarily stymied with this strand of my tree.
