Hi I have just had a look at my tree - changed to view to ancestors and its come up with my tree and a button for print. I assume you must have to change to view before it comes up with the print icon, if thats any help! regards Jane |

Hi Jane, When I tried to view ancesters all I get is the pop-up asking me if I want to install Adobe Flash Player!! Not being very computer literate I cancelled it. Everytime I try to install something it messes things up for me, so I will give up on the idea of printing my tree and buy a big roll of wallpaper and write it out!!!! Thanks anyway. Lesley |

Hi Lesley, What worked for me was to export a copy of my GR tree to my home computer and then print it using an offline program. To do this click on Import/export tree in the 'Other Useful Tools' section on the green menu on the left of here. Then click Export Gedcom. GR will then send you by email a copy of your tree information as a ged file. Your online tree will still be safely online so you don't have to worry if you mess-up the file you receive. I opened my gedfile using Family Tree Maker and then selected the tree printing option in that program. There are other programs, some free, which you can use to do this. Recommendations anyone? As you have under 100 names in your tree, it should print off quite simply. It is only when you get many generations and several hundred names that getting a tree to print and still look nice and understandable gets trickier. Incidentally, a lot of local libraries offer the odd computing or family history workshop. Ask at yours and they might be able to help you tame your computer! Personally I've given up trying to print from the new tree on this site. Sometimes life is just too short! Good luck. |

Hi Tracey. Thanks for your advice on printing my Family Tree. Have done course on using Computers but it only teaches the basics!! Nothing about unstalling or maintenance!! Will have to chat up son-in-law for a bit of guidance. He thinks I'm thick but will have to swallow my pride!!!! Lesley Thanks for reply, anyway. |

Hi Tracey, just read your tree printing tip and have exported it as you advised. This is a great site with great people. Many thanks, Pauline |

pleased to have been of assistance. Incidentally, most tree programs have an option so you can chose how much info to display on your print. You can select birth date, baptism date, locations, occupation, marriage and death dates if you like. I remember at first I got baffled because I hadn't realised you could select how many generations to show! Hope your printing runs smoothly! |

Hi. I've got a WDYTYA Family tree maker CD. Can I copy my GR tree on to there or not? And if I do, will it over-write the bits of tree I've already put on the CD? Is this CD a good one or is there any better software? |
