As I said, Hot Matches and My Contacts are different and work independently of each other. First of all you can't delete a Hot Match, only move it to Ignored Matches, if you are not interested in it. If you have already made contact with the person, then you must also go to My Contacts to remove the conatact from there. By the same token, only removing a name from My Contacts does not in itself remove it from Hot Matches.

It might help to put something other than *unknown* in your family tree, that eliminates quite a few hot matches. I put a ? instead. MIND..............I am a fan of hot matches.I was adopted + Just last week (after 50+ years)I found my God Mother as a result of them. She has given me my lifes wish of knowing about my life before I was adopted. I am gradually finding out about my B/Mother (who died when I was 10 months old) + my B/family. It's a dream come true. I feel so lucky. SO, don't disregard *hot matches*. They can be annoying I know BUT who knows where they may lead you. Good hunting everyone Ann

I totally agree. I didn't realise at first that they were automated messages so I thought my contact was being very lazy and very rude when replying. Maybe Genes Reunited could modify them to say something nicer. 'I'm afraid we haven't got a match, thank you' or something like that. If you're new to the site, you think it reflects badly on your contact.

oopps think I might have confused people, but then I am feeling confused myself. I contacted Martin regarding a Thomas Darlison via hot matches. He responded with a not my relative. I went back to remove him from hot matches as we have no connection. To check I was deleting the right hot match I opened Martin and it said our match was a Mary Heath... not Thomas Darlison Hence my confusion thanks everyone for trying to help... and yes hot matches can be useful that's why I persevere with them. My problem now is do I delete him, or contact him again... why is the name different? Jo

Hot Matches and Contacts are completely separate.from each other and in the way they work. Hot matches are a mechanism whereby the system attempts to find possible matches with others. It is then down to you to make a contact, it doesn't do it for you. My Contacts, on the other hand has details of all the people that you have actually been in contact with, or they with you.. What is it you are actually trying to achieve?

We dont' get our hot matches at the same time. I have been in contact with a cousin in Australia since May, she found me on her hot matches. I got her on my hot matches Mid September!

I have just had a reply from a Martin, one of those standard 'this is not my relative' (they seem so unfriendly - sure he didn't mean to be). Anyway, went to remove him from hot matches list, so I don't get more confused than I already am, found Martin (only one there) and it said we had 3 matches, odd I thought. Opened to check it related to Darlison (Darlason) but no it said Mary Heath.... Went back to contacts - that says re Thomas Darlison - back to hot matches one Martin, 3 hot matches, one name Mary Heath. I'm very confused...does anyone have any thoughts why this might happen... or am I having one of my many senior moments. Jo
