In that case, Julie, I apologise. With the number of names you have in your tree, etc, I thought you were pulling our legs. It has happened before.................... Where are you stuck? Post some details, and you'll get loads of help........... Try to be as accurate as you can with the info you give, so that searching will be easier for those who wish to help. Reg

Thanks Reg, I have loads of names because my Nan had details of her family for about 5 generations. And I lot of my relatives have alot of kids who got married and so on and so on. But in reality I haven't gotten very far. It's my Dad's family who are causing the problem. His grandparents (on his fathers side) died before he was born. My grandfather is also dead, so I can't ask him. Ok I don't have alot of information, but I hope will be able to help anyways. As I mentioned I am searching my Grandfathers Family. He was Joseph Peter Gibson born in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear in 1923, died 1990. He married Isabelle Henderson and had 8 children (5 Girls and 3 Boys), they were; Mary born 1948 Joan born 1952 Joseph Peter born 1954 John Willian born 1958 (My dad), John was a twin, his twin brother Mark died at birth or shortly after. Susan born 1959 Ann born 1961 Eileen born 1964 Anthony born 1968 Joseph a brother, David Campbell Gibson. David (born 1932) was quite abit younger and did not get married or have children. Their parents died when Joseph was about ready to leave school. That was probably when he was about 15 so would have been around 1938. My granfather died 1990 and David died 1983. From what I can assertin, there father was William Gibson (born C1904) and their mother was Mary Yallop (born 1904), but I have been unable to prove this. I got this info by checking the birth record for Joesph and this was the mothers maiden name. I also found possible siblins but can not prove these either. John Gibson (born 1923) Elizabeth Gibson (born 1926) Mary Gibson (1927) Margaret Gibson (Born 1929) Eleanor Gibson (born 1930), possibly died in infancy. Ann (born 1933) My Dad says that the older ones sound right but the younger ones with the exeption of David(The only one I can be absolutly certian of) he's not sure of. I would also like to trace their grandparents. I know it's alot of info, and abit hazy, but it is all the info I have. Thanks Julie

For people born after the 1901 census, the only source of info. on births, marriages and deaths is the full quarterly indexes from the General Register Office (GRO) which are available on GR, Ancestry and other sites. The only reliable way of building your tree with people that really belong to it is to start with what you know (you), and work back one generation at a time. Get your parents' marriage and birth certificates, which will give you their parents' names. Then you will know what names to look for when finding your grandparents' marriages. The best rule is: take nothing for granted - it's easy for facts to get confused. Unusual names (first names and surnames) obviously help a lot, once you are looking for people on censuses. And finally, it's best not to post details of living people on boards like this. Anyone can see them and there's a real risk of identity theft. J

Thanks John, Thats probably the best thing to do. I will also bare in mind what you said about identity theft too, never even give that a thought!!!! Julie

Julie To work backwards, you need at least your grandfather's birth cert.........or do you have it? Is this the Mary Yallop you refer to? Birth reg'n Name: Mary Elizabeth Yallop Year of Registration: 1904 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Gateshead County: Durham, Tyne and Wear Volume: 10a Page: 1117 As John has already said, anything after 1901 is tricky.........and it would be better if you amended your posting and took out all the names of those born recently (particularly the one who died) As John so rightly points out, identity theft is a major problem these days.
