I've been to Southern Cemetery today, and found the grave of one of my ancestors although not the direct line (she's the sister of my 2 x Gt Grandfather). Anyway to get to the point the stone is a lovely black marble one about 5 foot in length. Only problem is it's broken and is lying face down on the ground. The Cemetery Office were not very helpful and suggested I contact a stone mason to have it reset, but I only want to turn it over at this stage. Any ideas on how I can get this done with out it costing the earth? TIA....Bacardi X |

This is a difficult one, as cemeteries don't usually like you moving headstones. I don't know why, even if the headstone is broken and lying on the ground, the cemetery staff can't at least put them face up. I, myself would be inclined to go at a very quiet time with a few strong blokes and just turn it over to read it and then put it back as it was. Before everyone tells me I shouldn't do this....yes I know!!!!! A stone mason would probably charge a lot. Kath. x |

I agree with you Kath. Maybe wrong but I can't see the harm in it myself.xx |

Thanks for that Ruth - I expected to get blasted for suggesting this. I can't see any harm either as long as you don't cause any more damage. Kath. x |

HI I would like to just add that it would be wise to take a camera and get a few photos, just to make sure you had a permanent record. Regards Gail Ps I can tell you from experience not to go in the evening and take a flashlight as it attracts to much attention. |

What's the worst that could happen to you? A bit of a telling off? Go for it! |
