My great great grandfather apparently remarried very quickly after his first wife's death in 1888. William Fishlock married Caroline Emma Burnham (or Emma Caroline) in 1888. (on freeBMD) The 1901 census shows them together in Bromley ,he is aged 57 which I think is a few years younger than he was,his wife is aged 27. On the census there is a visitor(?) to the house Mary Hercheval age 10.and it says she is sister. Definitely Mary is not William's sister so I have looked for Herchevals and found a Mary Kercheval born at the right time, she did have an older sister Caroline and the date for her would be right....BUT.... I can find no details of a marriage which would have changed Caroline's name from Kercheval to Burnham and in any case if this is the right Caroline she married my gg grandfather when she was about 15? Any ideas before I go mad?!

Thanks Reg yes 1891 and 1901 census details as I have them, it is definitely the right William Fishlock, only married the twice (I hope!) think the other 'Annie 'death was cousin. Caroline' s (Emma) mum and dad were Kercheval so thanks Keith but I haven't been able to find that mum married again? but it is a possibility.

Reggie , Well... yes I see your point! although I had looked at 1881 and 1901 I hadn't looked at 1891. Mainly because I have four William F's on the go ...ggg gf,gg gf.gf.and great uncle. Wish one of them could have come up with different names especially as two of them married Ann and two married Mary! Will now have to think about certificates, you are right I haven't bought any yet as I had lots of info to go on re most of the others. Thanks very much.
