Help with a birth cert please.

I have a birth cert for Mary jane Poole b.1878. Mother correct name but ....Mr Poole died 6 years before! On the fathers space it has a name which is crossed out and two numbers beside each crossing out. 8 and 9. Crossed out name is John Appleby. On the edge of the cert it says..... eight nine DHS or DMS (cant see which one it says) Any clues as to what this means please? Gerri x

It will be a reference to a register of amendments. Don't know how that works though. J

Yes but the Mum was still Mrs Poole even tho her husband had died.so was still entitled to reg her child as Poole. She wasnt stating Mr Poole was the dad. the striking thro of the section with fathers name may be cos he wasnt at the reg , there may have been further info re the real dad in the later amendments. Maybe mum did eventually marry the father

Shirley She DID remarry in 1882 but to a John Horton! not john Appleby... Very frustrated Gerri Thanks for your time x
