Births, Marriages and Deaths after 1837 are easy, I just quote the index reference. ie Birth John SMITH Mar 1855 district, vol, page. But how do you record parish records. I have noticed that some people give the IGI reference, but we all know that this is not a primary source. I have obtained some copies of original records from the Record Office for the county, but they don`t seem to have any reference number. Any suggestions please

If you use FTM put your source of info in the memo section, or enter your source where you normally record vol and page. Rod

Scottish Old Parish Records have a reference number which is useful. I describe the source in as much detail as possible. If I have more than one source I put in 2 entries for the event in FTM, especially if the info. differs. J

Sally, I think you misunderstood me as that is not my problem. I use Cumberland Family Tree and each event has a source tab so I have somewhere to put it. Would you just enter the IGI reference as a secondary source, then state that the original is held at the County Record Office.
