Hi Gerri to export a gedcom on familytreemaker you click on 'file' top left corner go to 'export file' and you get options of entire file or selected individuals if you choose entire file you have to 1 decide where to save it (desktop?) 2 give the file a name 3 where it says 'save as type' it's a dropdown list, choose gedcom then you should have a little tree icon on your desktop with your gedcom file ready to export. I hope that works, lol. Heather |

Thanks Heather but..... This was my 1st question to you... ---------------------------------------------------- But Heather...where do I start from? I already have a little tree thingy on my desktop. Is that my ged c o m? Do I go to file from there? Or do i delete that and get another ged c o m wozit from GR tree? SORRY! Or do I go to my GR tree and then hit the file bit? Do I need to make a new ged c o m? --------------------------------------------------- . . I think I'll phone a friend...lol maybe cos it's late. I'll check again tomorrow then delete this thread as it's embarrising lol |

Let's start from the beginning. You should only have one tree that you keep up to date. For security the best one is the FTM on your home computer. If you've let that one get out of date and your complete tree is on GR or somewhere else, you need to export a GEDCOM file from wherever has the most up to date information. You can then import that GEDCOM file into Family Tree Maker. You may want to keep it as a separate tree, so call it something different. Or you may want to merge your new info. with what you had before. You can then go through and sort out all the duplicated bodies. Once you have a lovely shiny tree on FTM you can create a new GEDCOM file and export it back to GR. I find it's useful to include today's date in my file names, so I know what's the latest info. J |
