Maureen, if you pm me the name of one of your relatives, I will check if I can find them on the search for you. Keith |

I'm hoping that it's only on our own list that they don't show up...but do appear on lists seen by others. Not so easy now to check back and forth if you have several of the same name within your family. Gwyn |

I noticed that too. I think others can probably see them but you cant see your own. Its quite annoying as it was nice to be able see where your person fits in the list of names. |

Gill I agree with your point about making searching easier if you relative shows up, means you do not have to keep flicking backwards and forwards to check dates etc. I think they have changed it because they can, I can see no other reason for it! Keith |

My wife has a different login. So if i log out and she logs in we can then search for a name and it will show all, including mine. I am not suggesting you have two accounts.lol |

I've also noticed this and am not at all happy about it. It was much better before as you could see that your tree names were on the search index. I've written to GR about it because I thought it was just me. There seems to be a lot of meddling with this site just lately and not to anyone's advantage. I think GR will lose members because you just get used to the way things operate and then it's changed. Very fed up about it, don't think I will bother to sign for another year. |

Maureen I have just checked a name that I know is in other of my contacts trees and it shows them up (only 3 that I have already contacted), so dont know why yours does not work. |

Can someone please tell me if this appears on the name search? Firstname Test (with Test in the surname field) I have created 3 test individuals entering the info in 3 different ways and need to know just what is visible. Only problem, of course, is I am the only person unable to check this thanks to the 'improvements' I'm trying to find out if there is a way of distinguishing 3 individuals with the same first and surname now that the middle names have apparently been phased out. Thanks, Tracey |

I've just done some quick searches for names I know I have in my tree (first time I have checked anything about my tree on here for ages....only really use the message boards lately). None of them come up as being in my tree any more, although the names do come up as being in the tree's of distant relatives who I have exchanged information with. This seems like another backwards step by GR. I wish they'd leave the site alone. What with all the changes and the fact that most of the 'longstanding' members have gone from the site, it's a pale shadow of it's former self. Kath. x |

Tracy found two under your name, YOB 2006, POB Cyberspace, no middle names visible. Keith |

Thanks Keith, That has confirmed that the one I entered with the middle name added into the first name field is not findable by searching. I didn't think it would be but wanted to check as I've noticed other people have recently resorted to doing this to make their names more manageable. GR's removal of middle names in search results has made it impossible to do a lot of things effectively or even at all now. Tracey |

As for GR's removing of the searcher's own entries from the name list? I cannot believe why they did that. It does not make any rational sense at all. I used to be able to search by surname and region. All the names I'd submitted would shine out, often next to duplicates submitted by as yet unknown contacts. Believe me it worked so much better than Hot Matches and it was possible to make so many useful contacts that way. And what has happened to all contacts' surnames? If John Smith and John Brown have the same Mary Bloggs in their trees how will we know that they are 2 different Johns? One of the Johns will end up not being contacted! |
