There are some bargains in some of the supermarkets for FTM 2005 (including the Who do you think you are version). You shouldn't need to pay much more than a fiver if you hunt around. The 2006 version doesn't add much and is a lot more expensive. Alternatively to get yourself going again, you can download Personal Ancestral File (PAF) from the Ancestry website (I think it's there). J

If you have saved it as a gedcom file the photos will NOT be there. Gedcom is a text only file, now if you saved it from FTM as an .FTW or .FBC or .FBK file then your photos will still be in it. Ron www*genealogyprinters*com

I'll nudge a list of free gedcom readers so you can try to open your tree and work on it until you deide what you want to do about buying one.

A GED can be opened by any Genealogical program. You can even use a free one to get at it :) Any version of FTM will be able to open it and convert it to whatever format it uses.

Hi Before my old computer died I managed to get most of my family history info onto Cd's. I saved my 'family Tree Maker' info but it appears that thsi was only the ged file and not the program as when I try to open it says it 'needs to know what program created it.' I can't find the original FTM program disc and can't remeber the version I had (it was a copy). I fancy it was Version 11. So I will have to buy a new copy. Should I go for the latest version and will i be able to get my saved ged file onto it as it has loads of entries? Any suggestions will be apppreciated, Sian
