Hi everyone, I have just received a call from a 2nd cousin who has given me information on my great grand father. My problem now is what to do with it. I am not sure where to look or what to look for. The information I have is that my great grand father was born in Schleswig-Holstein in the 1860's and had two brothers. The family moved to Copenhagen but I do not know when. My great grand father then became a sailor and jumped ship while serving and ended up in the East End of London, where he met and married my great grand mother. I know that one of the brothers moved to America but I do not know where he settled. I have tried Ancestry and Rootsweb and have also looked on the Church of Latter Day Saints site but can find nothing. Can anyone advise me on where to look for further details and what information I can expect to find? I really would like to track down my great grandfathers birth certificate and details on his career as a sailor. How and where do I go to find this? Also, as he was officially an illegal immigrant, would he have been naturalised? Sorry for the long message but I am at a dead end now. Thank you all Lauren |

I found a record of a naturalisation paper by googling the surname (a german one) on the National Archives site. I don't think everyone bothered though. Jay |

Thanks for that Jay. Tried and failed I'm afraid. I have found some researchers in the area that I am researching but they are really expensive. Thanks again Lauren |
