Can anyone shed light on a bit of confusion I've got. My great-great-great grandad John Hurst was born in Scarisbrick in Lancashire in c.1816. He married Susannah from Ormskirk (perhaps Marsh - the writing on their son's birth certificate is not very clear). His son John (great-great grandad) is buried in Lydiate, near Ormskirk, as there is a Catholic church there - Our Lady's. Some wonderful person has transcribed the marriages at Lydiate onto the web for between 1790-1910, but John and Susannah aren't there. Are there any knowledgeable people on here who know where they might conceivably have been married? The complication is, their first child was born c.1835 so they must have been very young and therefore also their marriage is too early to have been on the BMD marriage index. Does anyone have any bright ideas? I'm totally stuck for even where to start looking. |

I see from 1841 census that they were living in Aughton, where some, at least, of their children were born. Could they have married there? There is a site which may help.........www.findachurch(.)co.uk Reg |

Thanks. I shall look into that. You see, the complication is that Christ Church in Aughton and St. Michael's in Aughton are both Church of England, but I shall see how old they are. I suppose, just because John was a Catholic doesn't mean Susannah was. I've found at least three marriages between Anglicans and Catholics. |

You could try Marshside - this area is near to Ormskirk, Lydiate and Aughton. All old Lancashire towns/villages although Marshside is nearer to Southport. Regards. Libby |
