Hi All. havent had chance to to do any family history since the summer hols but after today ive dug it all out again. my uncle died suddenly in the summer hols, and my cousins had arranged for the scattering of his ashes today they wanted my dad there as it was his brother, we ended up in a valley where my dad and uncle grew up, my cousins asked dad to show them the remains of bungalow he and their dad had lived in we found it and there are still bricks there and the old aga from the kitchen (they moved out in 1964 ) it was decided his ashes would be scattered where the bungalow had stood. As we were about to leave i found part of the kitchen sink its made of brown crock ( looks like a belfast sink) which is now in my kitchen lol my cousin found another piece of the sink and some bits of slate tiles that were part of the roof which she wanted, my mum and dad thought we were mad, but as i told them it was part of my dad and uncles history and we wanted to keep some of it. sorry it was long winded, just wanted to share. |

I think it's a lovely idea to scatter your uncle's ashes at the bungalow - it's like he's gone home, and also a nice idea to keep a few bits from the site. I know I'd have done the same. Kath. x |

Hi Kathleen, i did want to take a brick, some are covered in moss, but then i found part of the sink ( dad told us some stories about it lol) but didnt put me off its quite heavy as well, luckily where the bungalow is set away from the path so no one would really know it had been there, my cousins had brought a bouquet of lilies so they placed them behind a tree that was growing where the kitchen had been, my cousins and i have somewhere we can go to remember him on his birthday and xmas, and leave flowers without people knowing. |
