A really BIG thank you to everyone helping me on this one. I've just found 4 out of the six siblings!!:))) How exciting!:)) Before my father married my mother he was previously married and had 6 children from that marriage. I have a copy of their marriage certificate but because my father never spoke of his children by his first wife I have no idea of their names etc. Is there any way of me finding out by using his name and her maiden name in some sort of database? As you can imagine It would be wonderful to meet these very close relations of mine!:)) |

Hi Yvonne, When are we talking about? If after 1912, you could check the full birth index quarter by quarter on Ancestry from marriage date until your mothers marriage to try and find them, this will have MMN against as well. It will be a long trawl but worth it! |

Yvonne if it was after 1911 the mothers maiden name would be on the birth registry. Only way is to trawl ancestry births and look under the surname and district and see if the maiden name matches. d x |

You know when they married........also when he married your mother. So you can look for births in the intervening years which have the correct MMN (assuming the births are post-1911) All bmd's are free on Ancestry. Obviously a male will be the most useful, as his name won't change, and you may be able to trace him on 192............... Good luck Reg |

Yvonne After the 3rd Quarter 1911 the maiden name of the mother is shown in the GRO indices. So from 3rd Quarter 1911 to 1920 you can search on www.familyrelatives(.)com (remove brackets) using just the birth surname and the mother's maiden name. This is pay to view. You can also use Ancestry (free) for 3rd Quarter 1911 to 1920....Just means trawling quarter by quarter as you can't narrow it down in the search using mother's maiden name. After 1920 it again means trawling the free images on Ancestry....www.ancestry(.)co.uk (again remove brackets)... to find the birth surname and along side it will be recorded the mother's maiden name. Good Luck Chris |

Thanks to everyone for all your help. I have entered the information on Ancestory.co.uk with no success. They were married in 1932 and I know her maiden name. I then tried to find my own birth record of 1954 and nothing came up - do I exist?:)) I must be doing something wrong but cannot for the life of me know what it is! Any suggestions? |

you are going into the wrong section on Ancestry. you need the complete BMD index records 1837 to 1983 not the Freebmd ones. Its the top section once you have clicked on England & Wales BMD indexes |
