I have just come into posession of three Victorian Carte photos, and they are remarkably clear, with the photographers addresses on the back. Two of them state negatives kept. The one which has not stated that, I can identify, but the other two I can't. My question is, would those negatives have been preserved, and could they be traced by the number written on the back?

I doubt it! Photographers would have gone out of business, moved address etc. You could get information about the firm by googling and its possible records might be at the relevant archives, but whether old negatives would have survived that long, or kept in numerical order all this time, is another matter. nell

Didn't think so lol Just clutching at a very fragile straw in th hopes of indentifying one in particular, as it would answer a lot of other questions.

Well I have managed to date one of them to 1891, as the photographer was only in business for about three years lol. I couldn't find much info onthe others though.
