I've been using FreeCen which I thought was quite a good free site although only covered census to 1891 but it isn't very accurate. Has anyone else found this problem? Is there any other sites which offered a similar free look at 'household' members? Thanks Pat

Hello Patricia Have been using Freecen for a while now. Although it is pot luck as to whether they have the areas you are interested in, I have personally found the site really good. Have been able to confirm what I know ( as a test of the site ) and also fill in some blanks. Having said that of course, they do inform viewers of the info. with the clause ' We make no warranty whatsoever as to the accuracy or completeness of the FreeCEN data. ' There will always be that facet of human error unfortunately. As regards free census data, sometimes can depend on area that you want to look at. What area are you looking for ? Regards Jim

I've used FreeCen a number of times and have found it good. Yes I do admit that I have found a few mistakes but when transcribing it can be difficult sometimes reading what you've got and after all we all make mistakes. But I would say that considering it's free I think it's brill. Granted it is limitied at the moment on the area's on there and probably that is one of the reasons why I've found fewer mistakes than on ancestry or the 1901 index which are full of them. Did you know you can search the 1901 on ancestry free, then if you click by the side it will show you the other members of the household with ages & relationships. Then you can search the normal 1901 index and get the occupation.
