Thank you Kath for your reply. If as I think Mary was born Romany and I remember my olive skinned curly haired grandmother,it is possible her children would have her surname. I will follow follow up on your find, Gracias from Anne

Can't find a likely one in thre 1861 census. There is this one in the 1871:- Name: Mary Kershaw Age: 39 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1832 Relation: Boarder Gender: Female Where born: Ireland Civil Parish: Bury Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity Town: Bury County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address: 2 South Back King Street Occupation: Dressmaker Condition as to marriage: Disability: View Image Registration district: Bury Sub-registration district: South Bury ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 207 Household Members: Name Age John G Flo 5 Margaret Flo 14 Ann Maria Kershan 10 Mary Kershaw 39 James Yates 24 John Yates 1 Sarah Ann Yates 21 * I think John G., Margaret and Ann Maria have had their surnames mistranscribed. Where the transcriber has put 'Flo', I think it should just be Kershaw (the image actually has 'do' for ditto. Kath. x

Hi Lyn, I am a scouser also and love my City of Liverpool. All that I have is Mary Kershaw born in Co:Longford about 1831.I have no records except Jane Kershaw, her daughters marriage certificate to my g/grandfather Richard Cooke in 1876.Janes 's father is stated as being deceased, an Edward Kershaw,a commercial traveller.I was told that Mary was of Spanish blood, but I think she was Romany and Edward was a TRAVELLER and leave the commercial out. Thank you for replying with regards from Anne

I have an intuition that my g/g/grandmother emigrated to Liverpool to escape the Irish famine.I have her recorded on the 1891 census, born Co: Longford 1831.Daughter Jane was born in Prescot (no record) I think it may have been in the Workhouse about 1855.I have found them on the 1861 census living in a Liverpool district. Can I possibly find any sort of a record before this date. Anne in Spain.
