Many thanks Victoria, you found her tons quicker than me! The birth cert is misleading though isn't it, saying Emily Vince formerley Vince, that really threw me. Carole xx

Jay I've only looked on FreeBMD. I wondered if they were related too. I don't know anything about Emily so it's difficult to search not knowing her age or place of birth. Thomas was easy to find as he was a pianoforte maker, not many of those around! He was born c1873 in Essex. The only birth I can find for an Emily Lucy Vince is 1865 Sudbury, so this would make her quite a bit older than him. Carole

It probably means they were related in some way, before marriage - perhaps cousins. Could she be down in census as Emma/Emmy/Amelia or just plain Lucy ? Where have you looked for a marriage? - remember freeBMD is not complete. Brother wasn't married to an Emma was he? jay

I've just received a birth cert. The fathers name is Thomas Vince and the mother is Emily Lucy Vince formerly Vince. I don't know what to make of this. Their childs birth was 1903 in Hampstead. I've found Thomas in 1901 unmarried living at the same address as the birth cert (he is lodging with his brother). I don't know anything about Emily. I've tried searching 1901 and a few married Emily Vinces show up and a few servants, but nothing in Hampstead. I can't find any marriage for a Thomas Vince to an Emily Lucy any name. What do you think it means? Carole xx
