How long would the voyage take, please?

Lisa I think that was when the change over from sail to steam started to happen. Some ships were half and half at one point. Though I can't say what the exact date that was.

Thank you Peter, Georgina and Sheila. I was hoping one month would be the duration of the voyage, but unless the ships travelled faster as the century aged (which is possible), I don't think I've found my ancestors. I do appreciate all of your replies and shall keep them in mind. (I would think not only would weather be a factor, but also the captain's luck, eh?)

As a rough guide I have a muster roll from 1770's and they left NE England at the end of June stopped off at London then Ireland and reached America at the end of August. Alot depended on the weather I guess. Sheila

Lisa I just read someones diary entry about his trip in 1819 from Wexford in Ireland to Ontario Canada & the trip took 58 days. Georgina.

In the days before steam power I guess you were talking two to three weeks.

Wondering how long the voyage would take from England or Ireland to United States or Canada during the 1850's. (Not having much luck with google.) Just a general idea, since I don't have exit or entry points. Thank you.
