Dear Genes Reunited - Regarding the 'My tree matc

Dear Genes Reunited - Regarding the 'My tree matches' facility. I am sorry but I do not like the new 'My tree matches' - 'My Surnames Summary' facility. At initial glances it looks to be an improvement but when you actually use the facility and move from page to page it appears to be all over the place. The screen changes colour and position when moving from page to page. I also don't like having to move from page to page to see more surnames, it's too time consuming waiting for the refresh. I would prefer one long list of surnames. I don't appear to be able to set the 'Show activity for' to a permanent 2 Days anymore either. I've only spent a couple of minutes using it and that was enough. If an improvement isn't made then I'm not likely to use this facility. Do you have any sort of change control and testing system in place? I really think that the site could be great but it needs some serious looking at. It would be appreciated if you could make some improvements quickly. Kind regards John

I do apologise the 'Show activity for' does now appear to be staying at 2 days though I had to set it back to 2 days a couple of times at first.

Another thing is once you have checked the newly added names of a surname and click back it starts at the begining of the alphabet again instead of the letter you were on. Jenny

Is it just me or all the middle names missing from people when you do a name search ??

Please go over on general board I have a thread going there to bring back the old system, add your name to it. Thanks

I don't particularly want the old system back. I just want a (any) system that works well and gets me what I want quickly and efficiently with the minimum of hassle. I wouldn't say that the old system was good but its facilities were more useable than some of things that have been implemented now. I feel that some of the newly modified features have too many problems and are not worth using. John

My 'Show activity for' has reverted back to 'All' again. I haven't changed it!

Reply I sent to Genes Reunited: -------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Genes Reunited Thank you for your reply. When you mention redesigning the new tree builder, is the 'My tree matches' - 'My Surnames Summary' facility I commented on in my previous email part of the new tree builder? I am sure that your team have worked very hard but there is still no excuse for putting bad code on a live system. It is obvious from using parts of the system that the code does not function correctly. I would agree with you that it is not possible to please everyone all of the time but the very least you can do is to make sure that the system actually works properly. Please could you advise as to how long it will take to get all the bugs fixed? Kind regards John

I do hope they do something to improve the Tree matches I find that although it says 30 matches when you look it only has 16 this is just an example but I find that the amount shown is never the ammount it actually shows you!! and John I find the reverting to first page all the time most frustrating..........like you I dont mind change when it works but if the thing wasnt bust why fix it??????????? sandie

I use Firefox as my browser and the issues I have with My Surnames Summary are as follows. They are all concerned with usability rather than the core functionality. The front index page only displays 10 names, when I think there should be 20. This means that the No of pages is unecessarily doubled. There is a problem with the number of names shown on the first index page and that shown when you click on the name. I think it is something to do with the fact that the front page includes your own names as well. You shouldn't go back to the first page after looking at a name. I think this sort of works if you just tap the mouse button but if you hold the mouse button down for too long it detects a double click. It would be more helpful to replace the page number buttons with letters. This does make for added complexity, granted, as there could be more than one page per letter, but would be worth it for larger trees. It is not clear what page you are currently on
