I can't find any family wills on National Archives - does that mean they don't exist or are they likely to be held at the R/O? Elly

Dont know much about where wills are but I do know the National Archive site is just a tiny tiny tiny portion of wills in the country.

If it went through probate, you can order it from http://www(.)hmcourts-service(.)gov(.)uk

I thought most of the ones at the NA were PCC wills i.e Southern Province. Many eqivalent Northern Province ones are at the Borthwick Institute, York, plus others scattered around record offices. Jay

The ones on the National Archives are from the PCC pre-1858. Post-1858 ones are held at the Probate Registry at York, and pre-1858 ones are at various record offices etc. around the country. Kate.

For anyone who have Cheshire ancestors try Cheshire Wills Online... you can order online £3 per will + p&p. It covers the years from 1492 to 1940. Linda
