Thanks Maggie - I think you have you have the birth date there with parents being Henry and Elizabeth being correct - the marriage certificate will confirm the same - thanks a lot x

Thanks so much for everyone's replies and help. Think you have it spot on Lynne from up north! My grandfathers middle name was Anderson so it would make sense that my ggrandfather would carry his mothers maiden name over so I am going with the marriage of John Hall and Mary Anderson as being the right one. Thanks so much - am off to request a copy of the same so I can carry this line back further - thanks everyone!

One way to be sure of her maiden name would be to order the birth cert for that child born 1886 that you mentioned. Once you get that cert it will show the mother's maiden name. You will then be able to search for the marriage with more precise details.

Hi - I am trying to find the marriage of John Hall born in 1857 to Mary and I am afraid that I dont have a maiden name for Mary. I know that they were both born in Notts and lived in Worksop. Their first child was born in 1886. Any ideas on how to narrow this down? Any help grateful. Thanking you. Laura.
