Hi Your lot are worse than mine lol!!!! My Gt G Mother was married in 1874 to her first husband Charles Harvey he died in 1884, low and behold my Grandmother and 5 siblings were all born after his death. On the 1891 Census there is a man living with my Gt Gran listed as her husband (no marriage found) George Beech so I am assuming he is my Grandmothers father. by 1901 George is listed on the The Census still with my Gt Grandmother but now he listed as her brother.!!!! I have George's obituary from 1934, my Gt Granmother is now listed as George's Good Friend. Could perhaps your Gt Grans Lodger be her good friend. If you see what I mean Cheryl |

make it easier to read Elusive GGF Joseph Can anyone help? I have my GGM Mary Ann Sibson listed in the 1901 Census, living in Leicester aged 38, widow of Joseph Sibson with 7 children: James Walter (19, my grandfather), Joseph H. (15), Berty S. (14), Ezra P. (12), William H. (7), Archibald J. (5) May W. (2). I also have her listed in the 1891 Census as a 30-year-old widow at 44 West Holme Street, Leicester with 5 children: Wallace H. (11), Edward E. (7), Joseph H. (5), Bertie S. (4) Ezra P. (2). There is also a lodger, Joseph Antill aged 22. I am assuming that my GGF was this Joseph Sibson and have found a Joseph Hearn Sibson buried in Welford Road Cemetery in 1889 aged 30. (Family records show that he died 'on a sailing ship', but would he then have been brought to Leicester for burial?). I have found other records which suggest (eg) that Berty's surname was 'Herne-Sibson', so I'm fairly sure I have the right guy. However if GGF died in 1889, that would mean the last 4 kids listed in 1901 (William, Archibald and May) were not his. This is borne out from William's birth certificate, which shows no father. I am trying to trace Joseph, but I cannot find any record of his birth or marriage to Mary Ann (whose maiden name I believe to be Griffiths). The census records indicate she was born in Northampton, but I have other details which say she was actually the daughter of Ebenezer Griffiths and was born in Port Talbot. Confusingly, I am still unsure whether James Walter actually had an older brother Wallace H. or whether they are in fact the same person. My grandfather's name appears as 'James Wallace' in some records and 'James Walter' in others. However he would have been born in about 1881 as I have his death certificate showing he died in 1924 aged 43. In 1881, GGF Joseph would have been 22 and Mary Ann about 18/19. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance. Mike |
