Hi Kathlyn - yeah - think you can get away with this assumption (an assumption smells as sweet even when you call it a supposition!!). Gwyn is right - pages of marriages with the disappointingly same witness names!! Victoria |

When one views marriages in parish registers there is entry after entry with the same witness names sometimes, so I think that being part of the 'team' at the parish church, they were often called on as witnesses....and they could write their name. Yes, They were probably just there when needed. Gwyn |

I know supposition can be a dangerous thing but can I have your comments on the following:----- Mother gets married for the 2nd time in 1857, witness to the marriage are.......Ithiel Price and Olive Pickett. Daughter marries in 1861 and it is witnessed by, her stepfather Daniel Donovan, and Ithiel Price. I have spent hours checking on these two witness and it turns out the Ithiel is the Parish Clerk and Olive is the church 'Pew opener'.......Can I suppose that these two people just happened to be in the church on those days and were 'grabbed' for the occasion?????
