World War 2 medals - advice needed!!

I would love to know what medals my uncle was awarded for the part he played in WWII. I remember them coming by post (no great ceremony there then) and it must have been years after the war had ended. He put them straight in the rubbish bin. I would love to know why he did that too - but he died in 1957 so no hope of finding out. But he clearly didn't value them; that's for sure. Victoria

You may well find a local tailor/shop who do a medal mounting service. Price is usually about £5-10 per medal. Also you need to decide if you want them suspended or court mounted. Shop could advise. Regards Keith

Yes, it is, but unfortunately they are not the originals. They seemed to have vanished... but we found my grandad's discharge information in a pile of certificates and photos and it told us which medals he had been awarded. Then it was just a case of buying replacements. Not quite the same as having the originals, but as close as we were going to get.

Thanks Judith, that was really helpful! Yes, I have the ribbons all safely attached so I don't have to worry about that. Now can get on with the job of mounting them... another problem area because don't want to damage them! Maybe mounting using the ribbons because these can be replaced... I will figure something out I'm sure! Thanks again for that list, very useful indeed. Cheryl :o)

From the leaflet that was in the box with dad's medals: Order of wearing: 1 1939-45 Star 2 Atlantic Star 3 Air Crew Europe Star 4 Africa Star 5 Pacific Star 6 Burma Star 7 Italy Star 8 France and Germany Star 9 Defence Medal 10 War Medal 1939-45 Do you have the ribbons as well - and do you know which one goes with which medal, as if not the leaflet also gave that information.

I am planning to display my Grandad's medals from World War 2 but do not know if they should be displayed in a particular sequence or not... He was awarded with the 1939-45 Star, the War Medal, and the Defence Medal. He served in the RAF if that makes any difference! I hope someone out there can help!
