Brilliant! The area is spot-on so is the age, so it appears we have a match! Didn't realise clicking the page no gave those details! Thanks for all your help guys! Steve

There is a Laura Endecott on the 81 age 13 who is not on the 91 same birth area so it will be right. Especially with such a name. The birth year of the first child is also rightish for the marriage. Bob

The only George Harvey marriage I can find on Ancestry FreeBMD Index in Okehampton between those dates with a Laura on the same page is this one:- George Harvey Sept, qtr. 1885, Okehampton, 5b, 643 On the same page is Laura Endacott Kath. x

Stephen, if you click on the page number, it will list all marriages on that same page. There you will see a likely spouse for the groom. There are usually 4 to 6 names. Also, just underneath there are hints on finding a spouse. You may get a few results for the same grooms name in the same area, and you will probably have to order the certificates and hope you get the right one. You should be ok with Laura though, unlike my Williams and Mary's, there are dozens of them!

finding them on a census would be the first point then Freebmd and doing a cross check with later census. OR the other way round would be to get one of the childrens birth cert cos that will give mums maiden name too You say spouses arent listed but they are .you need to click on the page no & it will give all others listed on the page

I've been looking at the freeBMD for a marriage of George Harvey to a lady called Laura___ some time between 1881 and 1891. They lived just outside Okehampton Devon, and when entering just his name and not hers, freebmd returned 3 results for the area. Obviously spouses aren't listed in this year range, but when I entered 'Laura' into the spouse first name section, it only returned one result. Does this mean it's cross-referenced it and found the correct marriage or is it just confused? Thanks!
