Hi Anne Thanks for the information.I too might have to use a spreadsheet. The thing is at the moment I have all my printed census records and bmds in each indivduals folder and was just trying to find a quick way of looking at them on the pc rather than having to get the files of the shelves and look at them. I was hoping gedcensus was the answer. Julie

Hi John I am a bit niave when it comes to things like this. I downloaded gedcom census. I thought I would experiment with it. The first thing as I said was to put details in 1841 census. Husband had died by then and of course wife is under maiden name on my Family Historian records. I then went to amend in the census box but does not allow. When I checked help read that I had to do it in Family Historian records. Maybe I am being a bit thick, but it seems a complicated way of doing it. Do I need to experiment further or is this right. All I want to do is to be able to add census to my reports, at the moment I put them in notes. Julie

John, there's a special 'add on' you can get (I think free) from a FH user. Its not actually an official program but seems to be well thought of in the user gruop. Anne

I just made a spreadsheet with approriate headings and enter the details as I find them. I have them is a separate file to my Family Historian because I find it useful to have (say) all of 1861 in one file so I can compare where the different families were at the time. If I 'prove' something as a result of a census entry I enter it in the FH sources. I have made citations like 'calculated from 1861 census' if I discovered someone's age only from a census entry. I have to put all that in otherwise I find I'm wondering how on earth I knew that fact! Anne

Hi Julie Please could you clarify what you are trying to do. Are you wanting to display Census data in an individual's box on a diagram or something? Or is it some additional component you can download? John

HI Anne I too think it might be a little complicated. The first problem I came across was that you cannot amend the records without first amending them in family historian. This causes the problem of adding wifes names. Maybe somebody out there can explain it. How do you add census to your reports Anne? Julie

I did have a look at it but decided it was too complicated for me, and also I had already started using a spreadsheet to record my census entries. I think there are hints, tips and discussions on the Family Historian User group forum. www.fhug.org.uk. Anne
