The only time I would worry about not existing would be if I wanted a passport or to get married (which is unlikely as I already am!!). I bet the Inland Revenue would soon find out that you existed when they wanted you to pay your Income Tax!

David are you a member, not sure if site looks different for non members? Address http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/ remove bracket Under more collections England and Wales BMD Indexs. This brings up the choice of FreeBMD or Complete BMD index collection. Because your birth was after 1910, you have to go to the complete index, FreeBMD stops approx 1910 and is not complete yet anyway. Hope this helps Keith

Oh, i've just got basi search fields on the left, and advert for the 1841 census on the right and lists of BMD and Census records at the bottom. Are we talking about the same site? ancestry.co.uk? Just to clarify, i'm not going straight to the records, i've been searching with the seach fields then view records shown in the results. Is it better to got to the records directly?

David if you go to the home page on Ancestry on the right hand side it says England & Wales BMD Indexes, click on this and you get a page with 2 lots of BMD's one is the complete index which covers the years 1837-1984 but you have to search year by year & quarter by quarter. The Partial freeBMD Index will show you BMD's that have already been transcribed usually upto about 1910. I hope this helps. Georgina.

Are there any rules I don't know about? I can't seem to find many entries on Ancestry in the BMDs for living persons. Take me for example; David Walter William East born 1976 in Ilford, Essex - i can't even find my own birth record !!!!
