My grandmother, Clara Dyer nee Woods born c 1874 in Sunninghill, Surrey married my grandfather, David Dyer in 1899. I believe he died c 1910. I have searched for a death certificate for Clara unsuccessfully for some time and then had a thought perhaps she got married after David's death. I found a marriage between a Clara E Dyer and a man with the surname of Knights in March 1914 and wonder if this could be her. It is unfortunate as my father has been dead for a number of years and have no contact with any living family members on his side of the family. Do you think I am thinking logically and its worth getting the certificate or do you think I am clutching at straws? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Gill |

Well as you have no other knowledge of her then getting that cert would make sense if only to rule it out if its wrong. The cert will give a dads name & possibly her maiden name and her status on marriage. So I would think its worth a gamble. you could put ref checks on the order which if it doesnt tie will save some money |

Gillian, where was your grandmother when David died? I suppose she could have moved, but the marriage you have found is registered in Pancras. Get the cert anyway, as said previously this will rule the marriage out if wrong. Good luck Keith |

Hi Thanks for your quick responses. As far as I am aware my grandparents were in St Pancras (or Pancras) was it was then when he died and this was one of the reasons that I latched on to the wedding, including her name of course! I will have to bite the bullet I think and get the certificate. Its unfortuante that my father has been dead a number of years and we have no contact with any relatives and to be honest never really did when he was alive, but don't know. Any other thoughts would be welcome and appreciate your responses. Gill |

This might be David... Death Dec 1910 Dyer David 37 Pancras 1b 1 Just thought I'd check for the birth of a Clara Dyer. There is one possible in 1891. Clara Ellen Dyer, registered in Holborn. I think it might be best to get the cert just to put your mind at rest. I know I'd be wondering for ever if I didn't lol This also caught my eye... Birth Mar 1915 Knight Dorothy A Woods Pancras 1b 29 |

Well Tracy you may have solved a mystery thats been going on for years. My father, who died many years ago told me had a sister called Dorothy but no one else seemed to know about this girl. His father died 1910 and if his wife re married Mr Knight and had a daughter called Dorothy then this could be answer to the mystery. Thank you so much for getting on my wave length and trying to think this through with me. You have all been so helpful. When I get the certificates I will give you an update. Gill |
