I have an old photo of my grand father and some of his army pals. There is writing on the back of the pic in pencil but it as faded over the years. Does anyone have any ideas on how to read the names? Vanessa

Hi Vanessa - maybe hold it obliquely to the light and see if that helps (the faded silvery writing might catch the light) - or perhaps scan it and fiddle with the contrast. Victoria

There is a technique used by the police but I can't remember what it is. However, if you were to subject it to ultra violet light something might show up, so if you find a local trader who has one of those gadgets for identifying counterfeit notes they may do you a favour. Are you on good terms with your bank?
