Permission to view tree

I have done quite a lot of look ups for members and when checking my shared trees I have noticed that a few of the people I have helped have (probably without realising) given me permission to view their tree. This is the fault of the little box which is already checked for permission when you send a message to another member. Will everyone please take a look who has permission to view their trees as I have a whole stack of trees which have nothing at all to do with my research, other than that I did a look up for these people. I have the same problem. It's one of those annoying things about GR. We got them to change this a few years ago, but in their wisdom, they decided to put it back to the way it is now, so that you have to remember to remove the tick if you don't want to give people access, but lots of people don't seem to realise this (or just forget). how do you, ( tactfully) tell someone that you have no interest in their tree?......... Bob

This doesn't bother me in the least. I often find people actually want me to look at their tree, even if it is only of passing interest in connection with a query. I usually delete casual contacts after a few week in any event to keep My Contacts box to a managable size, so why not do that.

I see your point Peter, but I have kept the contacts in case I should come across something else to help. I have now deleted all of them to take the trees off as you suggested and now have a much shorter list. It would certainly be better if we were able to check the box ourselves, as we were able to at one time. Don't know why gr changed it back again (?) Linda

Hi, I too have asked GR politely if they could reverse this tick box function. All too often I forget to uncheck the box allowing unintended access to others, to my tree. Please GR reverse the tick box function. My penneth worth. Paul

Linda, I would prefer the tick box to work the other way round as well, but suspect that GR are actually trying to encourage the sharing of trees so put it back the other way. I usually remember to untick the box, and if I miss it, pick it up on My Contacts and untick it there.

Wouldn't it be good if there was a system where we could sort out our contacts, such as into seperate folders. One folder for family tree or hot match contacts and the other for general contacts.

It would also be useful if the contacts we do use, had a notes boxs on it so we could see the names in common, as to much time is wasted trolling through the relatives section...........

M.G. H.S. Well yes I remember that. Anyone remember why it was stopped?
