How interesting. If only I could find an ancestor like him! |

A Creswell Pigott was a steward on board the City of Boston in 1870 which disappeared en route between Liverpool and Nova Scotia. |

Well done - I have updated the title to include Mr Pigot. Sadly noone in this site appears to have him in their tree. |

Old Letter dated 1846 regarding family history This item is marked as prepaid and has a red paid stamp and a Market Drayton cancellation. Upon opening the letter it appears to be a reply to earlier correspondence regarding a possible link between the families of the two individuals. Addressed to a Cresswell Pigot? Market Drayton Salop from a Arthur? Walford 27 Bolton St Piccadilly and still has most of a seal attached showing what could be a Walford Coat of Arms / Family Crest. The sender of the letter is supplying details of his grandfather's (a John Walford) birth in 1727 in Market Drayton and is making assumptions about the name of his g grandfather from entries he has found in the same parish records a generation earlier. He lists Walford marriages from these records from 1701 onwards and baptisms of his grandfathers siblings in the hope that between them they may be able to construct a tree and get a generation further back. Quite what Messers Walford and Pigot would think about the ease of access to such info via the IGI on the Internet some 160 years later is anyones guess perhaps it would appear like witchcraft. He goes on to tell of contact with an aunt aged over 90 who is unable to recall the name of her grandmother or grandfather. Anyway a fascinating incite into the way family history had to be carried out in the past. This item should be of interest to collectors of postal history or genealogists / family historians researching the Pigot or Walford surnames around Market Drayton from early 1700's onwards. |
