b m d certs. in england

HELP! is there a site that i can access to view B M D certificates for england, (similar to the 'scotlands people' pages) I registered with ancestry.co but it looks like a waste of money as i can only seem to find pages and pages of names.

The only way to see English certificates is to buy them (£7 each). You use the reference numbers that you find on Ancestry to order the certificates from the GRO. If you are used to Scottish family history, then I'm afraid you've been spoilt and in England everything is much more difficult and VERY much more expensive, (no offence intended, lol) You don't have to subscribe to Ancestry to access the index of births, marriages and deaths. They are free to search. Kath. x

You can view the duplicate denominational marriage registers for free in the appropriate county record offices, if you know the church. These have the actual signatures of bride, groom and witnesses, rather than the transcription by the registrar. Also viewable on film through LDS family history centres. ( But not registry office marriages.) Jay

yep, can see i have been spoiled. Have been rattling the certs out goodstyle from 'scotlands people' but have come to a skidding halt once I crossed the border.

John There are plans to enable people to view certs online in England and Wales, though not sure when this is likely to happen or how much it would cost. nell
